We long for peace in a world of conflict. A few lines of the poetry of Nancy Byrd Turner (Let Us Have Peace) are included in the B section, along with the well-known spiritual We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace. Turner’s text: “The earth is weary of wars and strife…..Yet all our years are spent in bickerings beneath the astonished stars.” The entire piece is homophonic in texture, with moving inner lines, lush harmonies, and a few harmonic surprises. May be sung a cappella or with optional accompaniment.
