Charles Francois Gounod’s “Sanctus,” first performed in 1841, is a beautiful composition with flowing phrases and beautiful harmonies that move gracefully into and out of the prominent theme of the piece. It is written in ABA form, and the singers build throughout until it ends in a quiet reflection of holiness. This arrangement is appropriate for sacred or school choral use, and its theme will be etched in the memories of all of your singers. Enjoy the building of phrases in an emotional representation of peace and holiness.
