Many events of 2020 have been profoundly emotional for many in this country. We long for peace in a world of conflict. A few lines of the poetry of Nancy Byrd Turner (Let Us Have Peace) are included, along with the well-known spiritual We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace. Go online and read Turner’s entire poem. It is appropriate for today’s world. “Yet all our years are spent in bickerings beneath the astonished stars.” The entire piece is homophonic in texture, with moving inner lines, lush harmonies, and a few harmonic surprises.
