Summer’s Lair is the second movement of a three-movement portrait of love, Songs of Summer for Caroline. The heartfelt text of Movement II is told from the perspective of a young man who describes a tender moment spent with his beloved Caroline just before sundown. Lush melodies and harmonies move at a moderately slow tempo, reflecting a special love rooted in earth’s gift to one young couple … a secluded outdoor setting … their “summer’s lair.” Your choir will enjoy singing Movement II separately or as the second movement of the complete set of three songs, which when performed together tell the complete story of one man’s summer love.
