This traditional Gaelic tune, with text by Eleanor Farjeon (1931), celebrates God’s recreation of the new day, and has been arranged with obligato clarinet, consisting primarily of ascending “sunrise” melodic motives to compliment the piano. The two instruments are in duet, with both combining with the voices to move with toward the final celebration of “the morn!” Although considered “religious” in content, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) made the vocal version popular in 1971 for both schools and churches.
