The infamous poem penned by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae calls us to remember those who give the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. McCrae was also a physician and poet. He served in the Flanders region of Belgium in World War I, and after burying his close friend, penned the words to In Flanders Fields. McCrae noticed how poppies quickly grew around the graves of his fallen comrades.
