Choral singers are longing to return to their church, school, and community choirs. The current COVID-19 crisis finds us separated from our fellow musicians, parishoners, and families. We long for “home.” We long to be with others, making music, sharing lives. Greg Funderburk’s amazing words capture the longing to come “home,” pleading with God to lead us to that sacred place again. The obligato cello part enhances the longing for home, and the beautiful Appalachian folk song creates a “home” in memory that speaks “safety, peace, and family.” “Awaken, God of Mercy, Lead Us Home.”
Compliments of Earlene Rentz Online Publications: Notation for Low, Medium, and High Solo Voice; Individual Cello notation for each key.
Note: This setting was originally written for Maundy Thursday and other Lenten themes regarding the dark days of “The Cross.” However, it is appropriate in many situations, and especially for our current lives. Photo courtesy of Lauren Benesh Photography.
