The familiar carol has been arranged using a slower tempo, with hints of jazz chords throughout. The focus is on the hope that is ours with the miracle of Christmas and the joy of the season. The introduction and connecting material foretell the coming altered harmonies in the verses. The SATB voicing may be sung a cappella, though the two and three-part voicings have more complete harmonies with the accompaniment added. This arrangement is written to comfort those who bear a heavy load: “O rest beside the weary road, and hear the angels sing.”
