For those who are required to connect choral objectives and rehearsal components with National Standards in education, this collection of short warm-up melodies is an answer to the question: “How can your choral program be justified in teaching academic subjects?”
These warm-ups teach concepts in math, history, science, geography, and art. Use them as warm-ups, and let your students be creative! Have them bring their instruments, improvise, transpose, and enjoy the musical challenges, while they learn about meiosis, the longest rivers of the world, multiplication of binomials, trigonometry, the color spectrum, Royal Families of England, etc.
Your students will sing about information that will be able to assist them on future tests. They will remember facts as they sing the melodies. With these warm-up exercises, we can enhance our scholastic content with yet another aspect of arts education.
